Law in India

Interfaith Marriage

In a case in Madhya Pradesh, where a Hindu woman, who did not want to convert and get married to a Muslim man was prevented from marrying under Special Marriage Act. But the Madhya Pradesh Court put priority over Muslim Personal Law stating that a Muslim man cannot marry an idolatress because what is not valid in personal law cannot be registered under Special Marriage Act.

The Haryana High Court commented that it is a Bizarre Judgement and such orders will lead people to conversion just to solemnize their marriages.
