What’s a piece of media (book, movie, song) that changed how you see the world?

About Pulin BiswasThe first time I heard about Kapil Krishna Thakur, who wrote in Jagoran Patrika which my father published in memory of Jogendranath Mandal. My mother had a lot of affection for him and she read everything he wrote and asked me to read too.

I heard of Pulin Biswas many times. I heard his son speak also but it never elicited anything out of me but when I read the collection of essays by Kapil Krishna Thakur, I could hear only of the matua drum like the Paraiar drum in the south, “Call for Action”.

There was no place for Pulin Biswas in mainstream literature, though he was the most assertive man that we can imagine. We cannot find him in mainstream literature. No. His son Palash Biswas has recently published a book on him. I took an interest in Pulin Biswas after reading Kapil Krishna Thakurs piece on ” tar ga theke jama kere nieychhi amra” meaning we have taken his shirt off his body”. Such is the power of a classic writer. What do you feel after reading this? Guilty!

Yes, that’s why writers ard different from reporters and researchers. Pulin Biswas was a simple man with an extraordinary determination to bring the lost rights to the displaced citizens. Such was his vow, “I shall not wear my shirt till we restore the rights of our people.”

He travelled from one corner of Bharat to the other with the objective to fight against any kind of oppression. Be it linguistic imposition or displacement. Till his death he refused to wear a shirt.

Doesn’t this picture bring to our mind the picture of Gandhi? Then why did mainstream exclude him from the media?
