Did you watch Rashomon film?
In my opinion it is a must watch film. The characters are beautifully constructed. The cinematography is breathtaking.
In the rains, three men take shelter in a dilapidated place.
Two of the men are witnesses to a murder that took place in the forest.
There are four stories that are interwoven in this film.
In the investigation, we get four views. The murderer gets to express his thoughts. The raped woman gets to explain the situation. Then the spirit gets to speak for himself. The monk who had witnessed the samurai and his wife passing by was emotionally disturbed at the murder and rape. He has deep faith in humanity and his faith was shaken.
At the end a wood cutter who had witnessed the entire event confides to the commoner what had happened actually. It comes out that all four previous interpretations were not accurate.
The woodcutter narrates the entire event and it brings out that he had done something with the bejewelled dagger and the commoner accuses of stealing the dagger and takes away the kimono and amulet of an abandoned child.
The woodcutter wants to take the child home but the monk intimidates him because he doubts his intention. The woodcutter explains his genuine intention of bringing up the child though he already has six kids.
