Arhar dal is delicious. It is easy to cook and can be eaten simply with roti or rice.

Dal:

First wash the dal and soak it in water for 20 minutes. Then, drain the water, and transfer it to the pressure cooker. It needs one or two whistles to cook the dal. If you over cook it, the taste will change. As I prefer the over cooked type, I allowed three whistles.

Seasoning:

Put oil in the pan. Add chopped onions, and chopped tomatoes in the pan. Add crushed ginger. Cook for some time till the onion becomes transparent and the tomatoes becomes soft.

Then add chopped green chillies.

Then add turmeric, hing, and salt.

Then add the dal to it and stir it well to mix. Then add some water to it if it is too thick. Then add the coriander leaves. Bring it to a boil. Your dal is ready to serve.

Tip: You can also add some aamchoor powder.

Methi aloo:

Cleaning and chopping the leaves is a task but the fruits of labour are always sweet.

Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped garlic, and the green leaves. Add coriander powder, Cummin powder and salt. Cook till the leaves are soft.

Then add chopped green chillies and add boiled and fried potato. Cook for some more time and serve hot.
